The Delph Library was closed by Oldham MBC in 2004. It was re-opened in March 2005 under the auspices of the Delph Community Association and staffed entirely by volunteers from local people.
Oldham Council has decided to start to bring the library back into the Oldham Libraries’ Network. They have granted the library £20,000 in order to do this.
It has been agreed that this will pay for a self-issue machine and 2 mew computers, as well as some training for the volunteers. It will mean that once again people will be able to order a book held in any of the Oldham libraries from Delph, and will be able to return any library book to Delph. There will also be a greater turnover of books in Delph library.
This is very good news and should be implemented before the end of this financial year.
The library opening times are:
Tuesday 2pm to 4:30pm
Wednesday 2pm – 7.00pm (from Oct 8th 2008)
Thursday 2pm to 4:30pm
Friday 10am to 12:30pm
Saturday 10am to 12:30pm
We now have a computer with broadband Internet connection available for public use during library opening hours. The computer, and Internet connection for one year, was donated by Saddleworth Round Table – our thanks to them. Delph Whit Friday Committee has subsequently donated an internet subscription which is much appreciated. We also have a photocopier available to use at 4p per copy.

• Oldham CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) has recently installed an Advice Kiosk in the library. This provides information about Money, Health, Education , Work and much more. The Kiosk gives you access to CAB’s online resources and has a touch screen, which is easy to use. It is private, as it can only be viewed by sitting directly in front of it. You can also use it to go directly to the Oldham Council website.
• There are a lot of paperbacks for sale in the library, including children’s books. These are donations from local people and the money goes towards keeping the library open.
• We have about 40 volunteers who help run the library. If anyone is interested in volunteering please phone the library when it is open or leave a message on the answer phone: 01457 874381
Friends of Delph Library: A group has been created to help raise funds towards the running of Delph library (hopefully for a short time!). The ideas is for people to donate an annual amount of their choice towards the libary running costs. Details and standing order forms are available from Pam Preston on 01457 871387, from the library or click on the links below to download them.
